Stories from the Exile - Thread of fine gold
Like a thread of fine gold
that runs through the years
that was woven with wisdom
through joy and through tears and pain
was the love that was gentle
hidden and untold
when the Spirit of God
hovered over my soul.
In the night,
in the darkness when raging winds blew,
in the light,
in the gladness I came to know you.

Let it be as you say.
Here I shall stand and here I shall stay,
guided by you in moment today.

And you who must travel so far
by the dark ways without any star to guide you,
O fear not, the Spirit lives within you.

To be broken and built
in one moment of time,
to plunged into chaos,
to see your light shine again,
to hang naked in fear,
abandoned and cold,
to feel the Spirit of God
and his mercy unfold.
And the light from above
that speaks within you,
and the choice of his love
to start once anew.

Let it be as you say.
Here I shall stand and here I shall stay,
guided by you in moment today.

And you who must travel so far
by the dark ways without any star to guide you,
O fear not, the Spirit lives within you.

Background

I wrote this song while recuperating from a very bad bout of malaria in the Central African Republic. It is a summary of what I think the spiritual life is all about.
